Our Five Best Leather Care Tips

Here you’ll find our five best tips for leather care, which will help you keep your leather products (such as furniture and car interiors) looking great while also extending their lifespan.

  1. Protect the leather from day one Whenever you buy something new, you want to keep it in pristine condition for as long as possible, and the best way to do that is through preventative maintenance. This is especially true for leather products. It’s common when buying a new leather sofa or a new car with leather interiors that a leather care kit is included. This usually contains a protective cream, and we recommend using it as soon as possible. The protective cream is applied on top of the leather to prevent staining and protect it from everyday wear. It often also contains UV filters, providing sun protection to prevent the leather from fading.
  2. Clean the leather regularly Whether your leather products are new or old, and even if you regularly apply protective cream, the leather must still be cleaned periodically. A damp cloth works well for a quick wipe, but fine leather sofas and car interiors need a more thorough cleaning with proper products at least once a quarter to keep the leather in top condition. Regular leather care extends its lifespan.
  3. Use only professional leather care products Avoid using wet wipes, vinegar, or other “home remedies” to clean leather furniture and car upholstery. Many of these products contain chemicals that can cause the leather to dry out, crack, or discolor. If you're unsure what to buy, take a look at our webshop. We offer a wide range of leather care products, including leather cleaners and protective creams. Our leather care kits come in various sizes and include leather cleaner, protective cream, and sponges for application. You’ll find a selection further down the page.
  4. Avoid heat and sunlight To prevent color fading and other damage to the leather, try to avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight and near radiators. Sunlight bleaches the color of leather, and heat can cause it to dry out, leading to cracks. To prevent leather from drying out, clean and protect it once a quarter. Our protective cream not only helps prevent stains but also acts as a softening conditioner. The cream also has a UV filter with a high SPF, ensuring that the leather doesn’t fade as quickly.
  5. Avoid too much contact with skin This might sound a bit odd, but natural oils from your skin, as well as lotions, moisturizers, and other skincare products, can damage and break down leather, causing discoloration and even cracking! Protective cream helps, but decorative cushions, blankets, and covers can also be stylish and help protect your leather.
