Kit for Cleaning and Recoloring Aniline Leather | Furniture Clinic
Our Cleaning and Recoloring Kit for Aniline Leather from Furniture Clinic contains everything needed to refresh dirty and faded "absorbent" aniline-type leather: Ultra Clean Leather Cleaner, Leather Re-Colouring Balm in any color of choice, and a moisturizing Protection Cream.
The protection cream helps prevent dirt, grease, and other substances from penetrating the leather, making it easier to maintain in the future, while also leaving the surface soft and pleasant to touch.
NOTE! To determine if the leather is absorbent, i.e., without any protective finish on its surface, perform a "water droplet test": drop a small amount of water onto the leather's surface. If the water is immediately absorbed by the leather, it is absorbent, and the pigmented balm can penetrate into the leather. If the water droplet remains as a bead on the leather's surface, the leather has some form of surface finish, and the pigmented leather balm may not work as effectively.
Contents:
- Furniture Clinic Leather Ultra Clean, leather cleaner, 250 ml
- Furniture Clinic Leather Re-Colouring Balm, pigmented leather balm, 250 ml
- Furniture Clinic Protection Cream, protection cream, 250 ml
- Terry cloth
- Sponge
Instructions:
- Use the Ultra Clean leather cleaner to clean the leather. Apply the cleaner onto the provided sponge, squeezing it repeatedly to create a foam. The foam prevents the cleaner from immediately penetrating the leather, allowing you time to clean the leather's surface thoroughly. Wipe off and repeat if necessary. Allow to dry.
- Note that it is common to have grease stains from hands and hair on furniture made of aniline leather. These stains cannot be removed with regular leather cleaner. For grease stains, you will also need a leather degreaser. You can read more about the degreaser here.
- After cleaning, massage the Furniture Clinic Re-Colouring Balm, also known as pigmented or colored balm, into the leather using a sponge or cloth. The balm should penetrate the leather, where it provides its benefits. The color pigments in the balm enhance the underlying color and restore faded leather to its original color. Wipe off any excess balm that remains on the leather's surface. This step is crucial because excess balm on the surface may transfer onto clothing or other items.
- Apply the Furniture Clinic Protection Cream to the treated area using a sponge or cloth, after completing the application of the colored balm. If there is some residual balm on the leather's surface, there may be some color transfer onto the sponge or cloth. However, if the colored balm has penetrated into the leather as intended, this should not be a concern, as the balm that has properly penetrated the leather will not rub off.
