Leather Colour | Furniture Clinic Leather Colourant | 100 m
Furniture Clinic Leather Colourant is a water-based polyurethane leather dye suitable for colouring all types of leather. The leather colourant has unique flexibility and the ability to resist scratches and marks. The coloured leather looks and feels like new and will never peel or fade. A wide range of base colours is available to choose from, and the leather colours can be mixed to create an unlimited number of shades.
The leather colourant is suitable for:
- Covering small imperfections on leather
- Colouring leather after a repair
- Complete restoration of worn leather
- Full recolouring or colour change of leather. It is possible to dye black leather to white, and vice versa; Leather Colourant is fully opaque.
Furniture Clinic Leather Colourant can be used to recolour or restore the colour of furniture, car interiors, clothing, shoes, handbags, equestrian products, and anything else made of leather. Note: The leather colourant is less suitable for suede and nubuck.
For best results, the leather colourant should be sealed with a leather finish, such as Furniture Clinic Leather Finish. The finish enhances durability and provides a soft surface in your choice of gloss, from matte to high gloss. Without a finish, the colourant may produce a rough, rubber-like, and glossy surface. On some materials, the colourant may also feel sticky without a finish.
How to use:
- Start by thoroughly cleaning the leather with Ultra Clean leather cleaner.
- If the leather is pigmented or coated (a type of leather with a surface finish), remove as much of this finish as possible with Leather Prep. Note: Do not use Leather Prep on aniline, semi-aniline, or other absorbent leathers without a surface finish.
- Wipe the leather with Alcohol Cleaner to remove any loose dye residues, old oils, and waxes. This allows the new leather colourant to penetrate and adhere properly to the leather, providing a solid base. Any oils and waxes will prevent the colourant from bonding, so this step is very important.
- Apply the first layer of leather colourant with a sponge. Let it dry thoroughly before applying additional layers. Use a hairdryer for faster drying time. For a smoother finish, the leather colourant can be sprayed on using an airbrush or other spray gun (though this is not necessary; multiple layers can be applied with a sponge). Apply the colourant in thin layers until it covers the leather completely and you are satisfied with the result. Make sure the colourant is completely dry before applying a new layer. The colourant is flexible and will not crack, regardless of the number of layers applied. Note: The colour will be one shade darker once it has dried.
- Seal the leather colourant by applying a surface finish, Leather Finish (available in Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Satin, Semi-Matte, and Matte). The finish seals the leather colourant, provides a protective and durable surface, and gives the desired level of gloss. Only using leather colourant without a finish will result in a surface that is glossy and somewhat rubbery, making it more prone to friction wear.
- For an extra durable surface in high-wear areas, you can add Cross Linker Eco hardener to the finish.
Note: HC and LC stand for High Concentrate and Low Concentrate, referring to the pigmentation of the colourant. When mixing leather colours, choose LC. Use HC if you are dyeing the leather in a single colour without mixing, such as black.
If you follow the instructions, you will achieve a surface so strong that it is difficult to scratch the leather.
How long does it last?
The colourant is as durable as new leather, tested according to British and European standards. While it is difficult to specify exactly how long it will last (as it depends on the usage and wear of the product), we can confidently say it will last as long as your leather originally did. For example, if you bought the product five years ago and it now needs restoration, you can expect it to last another five years.
